Raman Flow Cells for Process and Laboratory Sampling
A Raman flow cell provides the interface between a Raman probe and the sample being analyzed. Using a sapphire window to separate the probe optics from the sample stream, it allows the laser and returning Raman signal to pass through without placing the probe in direct contact with the sample. Our flow cells feature sapphire windows, the preferred material because it produces minimal Raman background signal and is transparent at the wavelength used by HORIBA Process Instruments analyzers, meaning the window does not distort or absorb the laser or Raman signal passing through it.
HORIBA Process Instruments offers two Raman flow cell configurations. Sample cells are designed for non-contact measurement of liquid and LPG samples in laboratory and autosampler setups. Flow cell enclosures are built for inline slipstream sampling in refinery and industrial process environments. Both integrate directly with HORIBA Raman probes and analyzers.

Consistent Flow Cell Design Across Applications
HORIBA Process Instruments uses the same flow cell design in both laboratory and online process environments. The cell geometry, sapphire window material, and optical path are identical whether the cell is paired with an autosampler in the lab (Sample Cells) or housed in a field-rated enclosure on the process line (Flow Cell Enclosures). This is intentional: calibration models developed using the laboratory setup translate directly to online measurements because there is no change in sampling conditions between the two contexts.
